A lot of people think that history started on the 24th of February 2022. That terrible day in East Europe when civilization collided. And is still colliding, again and again with ever increasing ferocity.
You may think I’m engaging in hyperboly but evidence points otherwise. If this is what you believe, then likely you think the invasion was unprovoked, that Vladimir the Terrible is an out of control lunatic, that his Rusky Army are barmy, morally corrupt, desperately flailing and preparing for Armageddon. That Volodymyr the Great, with blue-eyed banderist battalions, his mighty opponent, is the 21st Century Braveheart. That Brandon the Bright and Victorious, Emperor of the Eagle Realm, Hair Sniffer in Chief, must “Save the West” by “Standing” with him. Like he did with the Afghanis.
Vladimir Volodymyr,
You say Potatoe,
I say Potato.
Shortly,
There will be Piety in Haiti.
Pray for those souls,
You will barely hear about it,
Guaranteed.
Cartoon history.
Other people think that history started in 2014. If you have that opinion, there is a strong chance that your views are completely opposite. Some very significant things happened then (and since), that will color your story.
Others still, think history began in the 60’s during the Shivery Kold-War. Where nothing was on ice. Ask the Vietnamese. Do you know what happened? I’m not talking about when you watched Platoon. They got some nice superheated chemical-showers and a full-metal-jacket. To keep them warm, for peace, for wrong-think.
The further back you go, the less and less people actually exist (quite literally) who remember or know enough to form an accurate opinion. Present company included. Each day and year, views change, shapeshifting history.
Not to mention the constant scrubbing of the very thing. If it is anything like the scrubbing going on today, we can be confident, we have no clue at all what happened yesteryear. Some of that can be mitigated if you read the enemies story, as written by them. Getting a hold of it, that’s another thing. Most of it decays in the sands of time locked in memories.
When you pick a starting date is very important as the bad guy in the story generally changes depending on when you begin and we are all interested in who the bad guy is, aren’t we? It seems to be the most important thing.
The further back you go, the more isolated you get from the rest of the public and consequently from policy. A four year election wavicle coupled with abysmal teaching, practically guarantees it.
For example, all I hear in the news, is the publics sensitivity to gas prices and how policy is being driven to reduce it, for the short term (wrongly). A loonytoon strategy that will lead to 20th Century Calamity. Myopic.
The Great Game is played over Great Cycles.
The Good and The Bad
Shapeshift in its Wake.
As do the Red and Blue.
If you can stretch your brain out, over these periods, following the sinusoid of history, with its inevitable ups and downs, the less likely you will be to plant a flag (especially in your social media bio), the less likely to pick the same team, time and time again, no-matter-what, and the less likely you will be an unwitting contributor to catastrophe.
So this is the Decaying Wavicle Theory of History.
Think about it…
