How to Stretch Your Mind Effectively
In the days before Vikid was the Truth, he read a lot of Popular Science. Books by the likes of Richard Dawkins, Sean Carol, Roger Penrose and many many others. He studied computing and mathematics in order to keep up with what the leading edge of Science was tackling. He read the popular press, periodicals like The New Scientist and the Scientific American, which reported on some of the latest developments and he felt very proud of himself.
Knowing about our world is a very noble thing.
But somewhere along the way he got a little disillusioned, things were not making sense, the subtle wasps of rotten corpses were rising from the basement. So he went digging and what he found was at once both horrifying and dazzling.
This is his account in a couple of books. If you care at all about Science, I would suggest that you read them. While you do, keep your peripheral vision open, you may notice some magical creatures scurrying in the background. You may even reach an ‘Ah ha!’ moment. You may cry, in joy and in pain but the journey is worth every step of it.
The Pentagon’s Brain
This book is fascinating on so many levels. It starts of with the testing of the first hydrogen bomb, what happened will blow your mind. No pun intended. What is most fascinating is what you realize scientists will do in the name of glory, in the name of advancement and purely because they are told to. You realize how people can convince themselves to do the most heinous things with some cock and bull story about ‘The Greater Good’.
This phenomenon did not end in 1940’s Germany.
It is well and thriving today. You will also learn about how ‘Science’ is done in the real world, who funds it, and how it is kept secret. You will learn how many of the big names, names that are adored and you wish you children could aspire to, are part of it.
This is an absolute must read for everyone. Vikid did it on Audible. So you don’t have to read it with your eyes. Be sensible if you must and read it with your ears.
The Higgs Fake
Alexander Unzicker is a special dude. He has a YouTube channel that does a great great job at doing two things at the same time. One, you learn about fundamental physics, while Two, learning what’s wrong with the current theories. Wrong is perhaps a strong word, but lets not get stuck on semantics.
He has written several books, though this is Vikid’s first and only one so far, he has completed it twice.
It starts with giving you an historical overview of Particle Physics. Starting with JJ Thompson’s discovery of the Electron and ending with the ‘discovery’ of the Higgs Particle. You will understand why Vikid has placed quotes around the word.
Through the journey we understand what Particle Physicists are up to, the theoretic underpinnings of the discipline, the involvement and reliance on Big Science, Computer Simulation, Modeling, Politics, etc.
Furthermore you will get a good feeling for what a more satisfactory modern theory should look like and a strong intuition for spotting bullshit in the future.
This is a highly recommended read.
