I used to enjoy clever writing, high IQ stuff. I used to enjoy subtle nuance, breakthroughs in thought, that sudden “aha!” of an unanticipated reveal. I used to enjoy lofty prose and literary excellence. I used to enjoy lots of numbers and squiggles preaching about how the universe began.
Mental Master-bation.
But times change.
There’s something pure in plain talk. Direct engagement and stories that have been told for a thousand years. It’s the reason we can watch Robin Hood again and again though we know the story a hundred times over. It’s the joy of just sitting with your cat who says nothing at all.
Meow.
There’s a joy of being simple in thought. You don’t have to strain, to just see things as they are, not over thinking, creating discombobulated stories to fit a narrative.

It’s got to be unhealthy, verging on catastrophic for your mental faculties. Either the amygdala or the prefrontal cortex will have to blow!
Angry mobs on the streets.
Listen to what they say and take it at face value. Plenty of citizen journalists taking interviews live as it happens. No middleman or high brow jurno translating it for you.

God. Just speak to him directly. No book. No priest or guru. Yeah, you maybe speaking to yourself if that’s what you believe but it’s amazing what some serious self conversation can do.

Politics. Again at the risk of nausea. Forget the pundits and curated clips. Listen to the candidate in full and directly.
Listening is the last lost art.
Family. Enjoy and nurture them.
Work. Look at the playing field and make a honest move. There are clever dikies everywhere, scam artists, inter-office politics. Keep it simple and ignore them. Nothing worse than a brown-nose. And nothing truly worse than scamming another.
Ah books! Read mate read. It’s hopeless how few do this. Barely a trickle. It’s what took us out of the stone ages. Not Netflix.
As for Netflix. Give it a break. Those M’fkers got no good in mind for you. It’s called preemptive programming and psychological manipulation. It’s what degrades all cultures universally. It plants seeds of cretinous vines in your mind. And just like any illusion, knowing about it doesn’t negate the effects.
I used to read literature, now I’m into pulp fiction. It takes a genius (with heart) to take a simple trope and make it riveting.
