Last night I met friends for some drinks and to watch the English Premier League. They were very keen to see what Iād write about this morning. So, I will oblige!
In attendance we had the usual lawyer, private equity dude, investment banker, a camping expert and a couple of jokers. You know who you all are š.
We drank beer and laughed copiously about the US election. For a joke it has become.
At one point, our Lebanese friend was asked,
āHow are things going out there in Lebanon?ā
He quipped,
āWe havenāt seen one good year since 1975ā¦ā
Which got me thinking about buyers remorse. I wondered if citizens from āThe Paris of The Middle Eastā understood what they getting into all those years agoā¦
Letās explore the phenomenon from a few differing perspectives.
Fat Contract
A few years ago, when President Trump was of no political consequence and I still had plenty of hair on my head, my company won a very large Infrastructure Contract. We had an extremely well qualified CEO who had cut his teeth with the big players internationally. We were confident and the champagne flowed as we rejoiced this wonderful outcome. I even gave a glorious speech to all our staff. Works started, hundreds of people were hired, machinery was locked and loaded. We had arrived as a serious company after 25 years of hard work and organic growth.
A couple of years later, curiously, the CEO got sick with a rather bizarre neurological problem that didnāt allow him to handle stress. Convenient! He left with a rather large bonus and I took over management of the company.
I can tell you with practical experience, it is not easy to look into your computer screen and finally understand that a decent profit projection had actually always been a fat fat loss. There has been some serious soul searching and a fight for survival every day and year that has passed since. This contract is still not closed. Some decisions canāt be reversed.
The Iliad in Greek?
As mentioned in previous posts, I have held pretty wide range of political ideologies. Currently, I tend toward Classical Liberalism with stronger bias towards deregulation and social + economic freedom. Thatās what I think works. Governments often make grand plans but from my experience their efficiency is close to zero, which means that taxes continually have to be increased with ever diminishing results, which calls for more taxes. Furthermore, it increases the civil service class that have no incentive to actually get anything done whilst having every incentive to keep their jobs for life. This leads to the ossification of all governing functions and an impoverished nation.
Which brings us to this guy:
How happy I was when he comprehensively defeated Corbyn last year. Again the champagne flowed, I had watched Bojo for many years. Being a Londoner, I knew him as mayor. I watched online debates where he a quotes the Iliad at length in Ancient Greek which exemplified his intellectual prowess. He was a Conservative, well educated and a safe pair of hands to guide the nation during a very challenging Brexit negotiation. We had a new Churchillian figurehead at a time most needed. Briton was saved!
But first came the crazy āGreenā policies that made absolutely no sense, scientific or economic, which were unsolicited by his base. Followed by Extinction Rebellion and his inability to tackle it, followed by mountainous illiberal regulations coming out left, right and center. Hmmā¦
Then Covid struck. BJ based his policies on the thoroughly unhinged recommendations of a pathological liar, a Professor from Imperial College. My college!
I almost shed a tear as he went into hospital, praying for his return to health. He came out a shadow of a man, as if his soul had been replaced.
Then finally I understood that Bojo was no better than my above mentioned contract and it had always been that way. I just didnāt see it because I didnāt want to. Even Theresa May seems to have more spine and wit than this clown. Buyerās remorse.
For the People
These were the scenes of joy when Chavez won his second term election, 2001. Judging from my conversations with people and online discussions, I suspect that many many people still donāt know what happened, even the people that live there. They either think it is a one off incident, a bad leader or that āThe Great Satanā was involved. They conveniently omit the policies, the philosophy and the sentiments involved in their calculations. I leave it to you to investigate.
I would strongly urge you to examine your own joy now, after the recent events of last week in the context of above and what I am going to show you nextā¦
Link, watch while you still can, such videos are taken down now at an alarming rate
The above is a video that will probably serve you well to examine closely. I too was temporarily āsuspendedā by Twitter with no explanation or apology given, it has happened to innumerable people I follow. So these are not just tall stories.
How many of you will explore further, I have no idea. Back to Netflix for you!
Perhaps I am reading too much into what has happened. But I only gave you two short stories of buyerās remorse ala The Vikid Truth. I have a bucket full that I could share. I have been dumber than most but it gives me a solid qualification in arts of deception. Iām on a double PhD and lifetime honorary appointment at the University of Dumbass!
There are a lot of happy people around at the moment, they just donāt see what is coming and thereās an even a better chance that they never will. For example, I have yet to meet one person who know the VP Electās history. All they have been exposed to is the managed media show.
The powers that be will find another Orange Man to take the fall.
and thatās,
The Vikid Truth
